Company History

The company was founded in 2003 by its Managing Director and Marine Biologist; Mike Causer and by partner and project manager, Jean-Louis Malfoy. Mike had already amassed huge experience since 1980 in aquarium management,  design and development in senior management roles in aquariums from both the private and public sectors. The company has since worked on and completed numerous prominent and complex projects in many corners of the globe and is proud of its record which is unsurpassed in the field.

Amongst many other projects significant landmarks in recent years have been :

  • the development and opening in December 2005 of the 25 million €uro "Mare Nostrum" aquarium in Montpellier, France, where Ocean Projects was responsible for the conception of the entire aquariological content of the project and for supervision of its execution.
  • the completion in spring 2011 of the 80 million Euro, 22,000m², 7,000m³ Istanbul Aquarium. In this project Ocean was responsible for the conception of the entire wet and dry content of the visit area as well as all aquariological support facilities. Ocean Projects further provided direct support to the client in execution of the project including advice on staffing structure and assistance with recruitment and animal procurement.

Recognition of our experience in specific areas such as rain forest developments and water treatment has recently helped diversify our project portfolio to include both zoological projects (Zoo de Vincennes, Paris) and many sophisticated water treatment installations (CNRS Marine Biological Station, Roscoff).

Our portfolio now also includes many repeat commissions from a loyal and satisfied client base.

The history and cultural diversity of past projects are the lifeblood of a company which thrives on the challenge presented by each new situation.
